Guided Imagery & Reflection: Inner Resources and How They May Show Up Throughout Our Healing Journey

Guided Imagery

As I lay down to rest, I notice my anxiety creeping in.
It shares many fears with me. It races through my chest, creating a sensation of flight within my body. It tells me I must always be on high alert—that everything is a threat.

One evening, I decided I needed to meet my anxiety instead of running from it.

Once I made this choice, my inner resources began to take root. I was guided to lean into my senses.

“Invite a calming presence,” it said, as it pointed me toward the lavender mist by my bedside.

“Now, use your imagination. Travel to a sacred space within nature—a place where you feel grounded and can hear the whispers of your soul. There you will find water and the moon to guide the way. Allow yourself to take your perfect form, and invite your body to meet the earth without the interruption of cloth.”

As I take a deep breath, I begin to notice my imagination gently conjuring the world around me.

I am lying in a beautiful field in Telluride, Colorado. The soft grass rustles in the breeze, carrying the scent of gentle rain. I watch as the bright full moon rises above Bridal Veil Falls. The waterfall and my body are illuminated by its glow.

Then my inner wisdom says,
“I will take it from here.”

This is when the magic begins.

As I lie in the field, wild animals begin to arrive. One by one, they enter and form a circle around me—a horse, a wolf, a mountain lion, deer… and finally, my bear. Predators and prey, all present together without fear.

Night after night, I return to this vision, and the animals greet me as if they have been waiting.

My bear claims its space just behind my head, rising onto its hind legs—tall and strong, its presence both grounding and undeniable. Together, we face the waterfall as the full moon rises into the sky.

Over time, fewer animals appear—but the bear remains.

A constant presence. A soul ally who has chosen me.

The bear softens my anxiety with quiet, loving, embodied strength. Together, we ground into the earth and witness the moon’s soul illumination.

You are not separate from this magic.

You are magic—and it lives within you to conjure these healing inner resources.

Guided Reflection

After experiences like this, I’ve begun to notice something about my own healing process—and the way I work with my inner resources.

Through observation and reflection, I have noticed:

First, there is often a longing for something that feels like peace, comfort, or safety—something that can help hold what I am moving through.

Second, I need the right environment so I can meet what is arising within me and stay present with it.

Third, my senses become very present. Touch, smell, sight, and sound begin to guide me. They help me arrive—and remain—in the moment.

Fourth, I invite in my imagination. I allow images, symbols, and inner landscapes to form.

Fifth, I open to guidance that feels unseen. This may come through spirit, ancestors, intuition, or something just beyond my conscious understanding—yet still deeply connected to me.

And finally, I release control and allow the process to take its own shape. This is often when the soul allies appear.

Reflection Questions

If you were to lean into your inner resources as part of your healing process:

  • What do you already know about how you heal?

  • What qualities would you like to invite in? (e.g., grounding, soothing, loving, strength)

  • What would you need in order to feel safe enough to explore the unknown within you?

  • What is your intention for this kind of inner experience?
(e.g., easing anxiety, finding clarity, building inner trust)

  • What tools support you in this process?
(e.g., imagery, journaling, meditation, movement, external or internal processing)

Note on Nature and Imagery

While my visions for healing often include gentle and supportive imagery of wild animals and nature, it is important to hold a grounded respect for the natural world.

These inner experiences are symbolic and not meant to suggest that real-life interaction with wild animals would—or should—be safe or appropriate in the same way.

In lived reality, wild animals deserve space, respect, and distance. I do not believe in or encourage approaching or interacting with wildlife in ways that could cause harm to either humans or animals.

During a recent visit to Hawaiʻi, I was moved by the cultural guidance to maintain respectful distance from wildlife in order to protect both people and animals.

Many negative wildlife encounters occur when boundaries are crossed. I encourage honoring the wildness of animals by allowing them to remain undisturbed in their natural habitats.
